    A player like Embiid, Giannis, Jokic, Doncic, Curry, are not going to become available in for foreseeable future. Additionally, those type of A list players would not get traded for just picks (I don't care how many picks) and a salary filler player. The first round picks the knicks traded were decreasing their value the minute they prove to be a contender in the next 4-5 seasons with the MVP level talent of Jalen Brunson. The New York Knicks knew they have an expiration date on their window of opportunity to go big fish hunting. They gave up a bunch of picks that will be late first rounders and Bijan for a borderline all-star. This trade has addressed a few fundamental issues with the team. They have added a legit perimeter defender who made all defensive 1st team in 2022 and Thibs will adore. They added depth so Divo can be a bench scorer or Mikal can be an early sub and come back in with the bench unit. You now have a legit 2/3rd option on the team to is a 3-level scorer. The fit is probably the biggest reason they do this trade. Mikal's age and contract, Nova Knicks connection, and he is an excellent scorer off the ball but, can double as a distributor. A lot of picks, I hear it but, that's the cost of doing business in the NBA. Also, that's the cost of pulling the trigger and being an eastern conference contender for the future. The knicks will become a second apron team soon, so the clock was ticking on a move like this. I admit I never saw the Nets making a trade with us.

    The way to rationalize this deal is simple, if you think OGs value is around 40-50 million per year. And you view Mikal’s skill set as being similar to OGs. Then this trade is very fair because you essentially get OG for two years at 20million per year. And you likely will be able to extend Mikal for a reasonable number because of the Nova connection. In my opinion very good deal. I guarantee you though tonight they will trade one of their 1st round picks for a future a first round pick.

    Thanks for the thoughtful conversation. A few thoughts. 1) None of us know how OG feels about this. He might not want to share minutes with Mikal and he might think the Villanova core is too much of a click. If this costs us OG, then we sent a ton of assets for a minimal bump up. 2) With or without this trade other teams could outbid NY for Hartenstein because of his Early Bird rights. If the Knicks are gonna send Robinson somewhere to free up the cap space for Hartenstein, they better be damn sure that he will accept an offer from NY with less money even if OKC or ORL offer him $5m more per year. I think losing Hartenstein is a much bigger deal than people realize because it was the combo of him and Mitch that gave NY a 48 minute advantage on the glass.

    With the Stepien rule in place, did we give away all our picks? We gave up years 25, 27, 29, and 31. Don’t we still have 26, 28 and 32? Plus the Detroit and Washington picks? The swap year is still a swap of the better first so we still have a pick in the swap year.

    You guys value ihart way too much He was FOOOD in the playoffs...straight up food...embiid and Turner both killed him Yes he's a GREAT passer .too bad we don't have a team constructed to take advantage of that..jb is too ball dominant and ends up in iso dribble dribble dribble 7/10 times . Not enough people cut to even take advantage of his passing skills. Especially if OG is hurt..in any case.. We have mitch..the best offensive rebounder in the game..and the blockness monster held embiid to 41% shooting when he guarded him....lets hold on to him and invest in the medicine..we can find another ihart...

    • @patrickklaas3902
      @patrickklaas3902 12 годин тому

      Yea, I feel like we're overestimating IHart a bit. He was a -71 in the playoffs. If you remove game 7 of the Pacers series, he was a -43. He does incredible things for our offense, but to your point, he got eaten by Embiid. You know who didn't? Mitchell Robinson. With Jalen/Bridges/OG/Randle out there with Mitch, I don't think spacing is that much of an issue, but I hope we will see.

    • @lirpa2300
      @lirpa2300 11 годин тому

      And you overrate Mitchell Robinson. He hasn't played a full season on this team due to injuries, which has also stifled his growth as a player. I'm tired of Half a Season Mitch. This team is in a win now situation and I don't want to see another season derailed due to injuries which ironically always start with Mitchell Robinson going down with an injury. I like Mitch but he's too injury prone as the main center of a championship building team. If they can keep both and have Mitch come off the bench to preserve his body, then fine but if they have to choose, I hope they keep IHart. Alot of Knicks fans are not being honest with themselves and are in denial about Mitchell Robinson like they were with RJ Barrett.

    • @patrickklaas3902
      @patrickklaas3902 10 годин тому

      @lirpa2300 Joel Embiid was 12/34 (35.3%) FG and 3/11 (27.3%) 3P when defended by Mitchell Robinson. Hartenstein got cooked by Embiid and then he got cooked even worse by Myles Turner. Not saying Mitch is the best player on the face of the earth, but neither is Hartenstein and not resigning Hartenstein should in no way go down as a demerit on this trade. And if you're talking injuries, Hartenstein has been injured the last two season with the same Achilles issue, and that's without dirty plays by opposing players to keep him out of the game.

    • @UnKnownn2520
      @UnKnownn2520 10 годин тому

      @lirpa2300 lol how do you over rate someone who is objectively one of the best or the best at a skill set. Ihart is not the best or one the best at anything. Nothing at all.. now I love ihart...especially as our center....no one is saying not to try to retain him...but we should not overpay...and if that means he's gone then fine we develop another just like we did him. Mitch, even hurt, has been more important for us than ihart especially in the playoffs.

      It doesn't become official until July 1st I believe. Knicks could add a few minimum salary guys to it, (Jeffries and Diakite) and they would avoid the 1st apron and not hard cap them. Basically, it would make keeping Hartenstein and OG a lot more possible.

  • @EagleLegend502
    @EagleLegend502 15 годин тому

    I’m a Raptors fan and this move is awesome for the Knicks on many levels. First this is protection if OG leaves. Bridges and OG are the top two 3 and D players in the NBA. If they have both next season they are definitely better than last season and for parts of the season when healthy were the best team in basketball. Second this removes some of OG’s leverage and there is a world that the Sixers get Paul George which is more of a Morey move than OG and the money for OG dries up. This means he might have to accept less than he wanted from the Knicks and OG doesn’t hold the leverage anymore. The Villanova Knicks and even Randle accepted less money than market value to build this team and OG was not willing to so now if they let him go they still should be better than last season. I’m starting to think the best move the Knicks can make is focus on signing I-Hart and let OG and his massive overpaid contract demands leave. Either way the Knicks are championship contenders whatever happens and the league is on notice. I might even have to start cheering for the Knicks as my Raptors rebuild. Definitely would prefer the Knicks win a championship than the Celtics, Bucks, Cavs, or Sixers. I understand that’s a lot to give up for a non superstar but this player is a perfect on the court and enhances the team’s identity.

      I know that’s a lot of picks for Mikal, but he’s the right play for THIS team. Like OG, and alongside OG and Brunson and Randle, Mikal will open up the floor in a way that should make the entire Knicks offense more fluid. Defensively, the Knicks will be a juggernaut. The biggest low-key win in this trade is that the Knicks held onto a developing Deuce McBride, whom I still think can improve as a distributor. There is a risk of losing iHart, but I suspect Knicks will hedge against that potential loss, in the draft tonight.

      “There was something fun about the wondering..” Well, yes, but I was sick of wondering and worrying whether Knicks would get desperate and trade everything + rotation players for Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell is more talented than Bridges, of course, but the fit was not nearly as good. The move is about fit and retaining the chemistry that made this team what it was. This is the best, team-first Knicks team that I have personally watched, going back to Michael Ray Richardson. Knicks have failed for decades with the star-stacking approach. I’m sick of it. I’ll take this bet on this team.
